Why MHFA?

Why Mental Health First Aid matters

Many do not seek help due to lack of knowledge, stigma, or limited access. Not all mental health difficulties need professional help — someone who understands can make a profound difference.

Mental health problems are common

1 in 3 Malaysian adults faced mental health problems (National Health and Morbidity Survey, 2015. MOH Malaysia). 8% suffers from Depression (NHMS 2025, MOH Malaysia).

Limited mental health professionals

1.78 psychiatrists per 100,000 population in Malaysia (developed countries, >10/100,000).

Many do not seek professional help

Less than 50% of those with mental health problems seek help. Many confide in friends who are not equipped to help.

MHFA training is effective

MHFA training has been shown to be effective in equipping ordinary people to recognise mental health problems and provide early intervention, support and help to avert a crisis.
